Krzysztof Zarębski (born 1939) is a performance artist, author of paintings, sculptures, installations. His actions usually focused on issues of the body and sexuality. He performed alone and also invited other performers. In the 1970s, he created works he referred to as Zones of Contact. These included an action involving exposing his body to medicinal leeches. He exhibited at Galeria Współczesnej [the Contemporary Gallery] in Warsaw, among others. Zarębski also collaborated with the theater. In 1974 he designed the costumes and set for Helmut Kajzar’s play Rycerz Andrzej [Knight Andrew] staged at Teatr Studio in Warsaw. In 1980, he made a performance at Galeria Studio called Objects. In 1981 he left Poland and settled in New York, where he was active with the Rivington School art group.
