Teresa Gierzyńska, Cool (from the series About Her), 1980, silver gelatin print on matt paper, mounted on cardboard, ink
Teresa Gierzyńska (b. 1947) began working on her photographic series About Her at the end of the 1970s and has continued to do so until now. Two of these works, among the first, are in the Galeria Studio Collection, Cool and Full of Hope II, both created in 1980. In staged shots, the artist tells the story of being a woman and refers in particular to the interpersonal relationships (often expected or imposed) that she has to confront, or that accompany her in everyday life. By reaching for such a delicate and at the same time intimate subject, Gierzyńska has created a poetic story about herself, in which she attempts to capture and translate a range of feelings, in all their manifestations, into the language of photography. About Her has the character of a universal story. It can be applied to any woman who, based on the emotional states surrounding her, creates herself, remaining in an inseparable relationship with the environment in which she functions.
