Starting April 13, 2026, with the opening of Filipka Rutkowska’s exhibition “Gender Is Over”, Galeria Studio will be open:
Wednesday – Thursday: 3:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Friday – Sunday: 3:00 PM – 10:00 PM
The location of Galeria Studio is unique – it is situated right next to the stages of Teatr Studio, which, like barStudio and Plac Centralny, come alive in the evening. This change aims to bring together the institution’s different audiences: theatergoers and viewers of visual art. By extending the gallery’s opening hours into the evening, visitors will be able to experience artistic events in a new context.
Galeria Studio, founded in the 1970s together with Teatr Studio by Józef Szajna, emerges from the practice of visual theater and formal experimentation. The painter, set designer, and theater director believed that the division between visual and performing arts is limiting, and that the most interesting phenomena arise at the intersection of disciplines.
In the coming months, the gallery’s program will explore what visual arts can become in a theatrical context: how they are influenced by proximity to the stage, scenography, and costume; what emerges from their combination; and how visual arts can affect the specific nature of theatrical performance. Reinterpreting Szajna’s ideas in today’s context, with the participation of contemporary artists, will be particularly important. Blurring the boundaries between formats and disciplines can help us imagine a world different from one defined by borders and walls.
