Galeria Studio, founded in the 1970s together with Teatr Studio by Józef Szajna, emerges from the practice of visual theater and formal experimentation. The painter, set designer, and theater director believed that the division between visual and performing arts is limiting, and that the most interesting phenomena arise at the intersection of disciplines.

In the coming programme, the gallery will explore what visual arts can become in a theatrical context: how they are influenced by proximity to the stage, scenography, and costume; what emerges from their combination; and how visual arts can affect the specific nature of theatrical performance. Reinterpreting Szajna’s ideas in today’s context, with the participation of contemporary artists, will be particularly important. Blurring the boundaries between formats and disciplines can help us imagine a world different from one defined by borders and walls.
