Filipka Rutkowska takes over the Main Stage at Teatr Studio! Join us on 12 May at 8.00 PM for the artist’s performance, “The Incredible Adventures of Baroness Munchausen”.
Admission is included in the price of the exhibition ticket.
The performance is based on a voice diary in which the artist documents a sudden shift toward self-care after years of excessive behaviour. Through short, intimate recordings, s/he confronts the issue of addiction and reflects on the process of recovery outside of institutional therapy. Rather than promoting conventional wellness culture, the work restores value to a period marked by the use of psychoactive substances, while humorously portraying the worlds of art, literature, theatre, film, and her own media presence from the perspective of sobriety. The title of the work refers to the character of Baron Munchausen. His impossible attempt at self-rescue becomes a metaphor for the artist’s effort to break free from addiction through storytelling. The work explores the process of reclaiming oneself without erasing the past, transforming the past excessive behaviour into material for growth rather than a source of shame.
The performance was commissioned by Konteksty 2025 – Festival of Ephemeral Art, Sokołowsko.
