AlphaGo_Lee. Theory of Sacrifice, directed by Natalia Korczakowska, will be presented at the Busan International Performing Arts Festival (BIPAF) in Busan, South Korea. The production has been included in the festival’s 2026 programme as the opening performance and will be shown on 9 and 10 May 2026 at Busan Cinema Center Haneulyeon Theatre.

The performance takes as its starting point the historic match between Korean Go champion Lee Sedol and the AlphaGo programme, which took place in Seoul in 2016. That event became a turning point in the development of artificial intelligence and one of the defining symbols of the global debate surrounding it.

Now in its 23rd edition, BIPAF has become an important international platform for contemporary performing arts, bringing together artists and companies from Korea and around the world. The 2026 festival takes place from 9 to 17 May and features a broad programme of invited performances, international exchange initiatives, artist talks, and community-based events.

The festival is committed not only to presenting outstanding productions, but also to fostering dialogue between artists, audiences, and presenters. Through performances in theatres and public spaces alike, BIPAF creates a dynamic setting for international exchange and for encountering contemporary theatre in many different forms.
